I really appreciate this post, Liz. We reflected on this very passage in my small group this spring (where we read and discussed the book "Breathe" by Keri Wyatt Kent) and practiced an exercise that helped us to envision what it meant to "remain" in God's vine. As a visual and crafty person it was really helpful to me: each person got a blank page and markers and drew a tree trunk labeled "God", then had free reign to draw branches outlining what activities occupy space in their lives right now, with twigs coming off the branches to detail more specifics (i.e. a branch labeled "Housekeeping" might have twigs saying, "Laundry", "Budget/Pay Bills", etc.). It was pure soul care for me to finish my tree and see with great clarity where God is at work in each of those branches - and where I need to exercise some pruning.
