1. A church needs a pastor who is animated by the gospel and not afraid who knows it.2. A church needs a pastor who is honest about his or her short-comings and is willing to allow God’s grace to be made evident in their weakness (I think this is biblical in fact!?!).3. A church needs a pastor who tells the truth about reality while at the same time understands that it takes time for congregations to absorb that truth and actually do something about it.4. A church needs a pastor who models a life of Christian faithfulness and intentional discipleship.5. A church needs a pastor who is not afraid to laugh or cry (sometimes it’s very hard to tell the difference).6. A church needs a pastor who loves and cares for their own family and in so doing models behavior that is important for all families.7. A church needs a pastor who prays, supports, and encourages them in the midst of ordinary life.8. A church needs a pastor who lavishes praise in the face of the good that we do and is sparing in his or her criticism when we fail.9. A church needs a pastor who has the congregation’s best interest in mind.
10. A church needs a pastor who at the end of his or her ministry it can be said, “thank you for being my friend and pastor†and through mutual tears, both understand that they are better because of it.
