Race Divisions: The Church’s Witness

This link is to an amazing story of a man who was attracted to a Covenant church in Washington due to the congregation’s well-known involvement in working toward racial righteousness. Baca, himself Spanish, was so impressed with what he read about the local church’s efforts that he started attending a Covenant church, went on a Sankofa journey, and was so deeply impacted and kept telling the story of this work that his corporation, Microsoft, has asked him to train workers there on the issue. What a witness for the church – what a success story that affected a congregation, an individual, and now all those who he affects in his community! It reminds me of how the church at its best can be known for this kind of work, for being on the forefront of working for racial righteousness in our world. Look at these ever-widening ripple affects – what God can do with one open heart, changed mind, and convicted actor who sees his faith and therefore his life as deeply impacted by race and righteousness. (If anyone is interested in bringing Sankofa and/or the Invitation to Racial Righteousness experience to your congregation, let me know, I can hook you up!)
